The Spanish Guitar duet goes on and on with its summer season, the part of the year where more events take place. After the sold out concert in Valdepeñas, they start this hard work period combining private and public events. Like the ones that took place in AC Palacio del Retiro, during the months of May and June, and where they will be back in september, each thursday from 8 to 10 P.M.
2017 Spring is here, and adding to the normal and various events this Spanish Guitar duet always has, we have this new compromise between Duo Sonanta and the hotel AC Palacio del Retiro, a prestigious hotel in the center of Madrid, where from now on every thursday from 8 to 10 P.M. everyone can enjoy in its bar-lounge the magic of the Spanish Guitar.
The 2016 season couldn't have gone better for Duo Sonanta. Apart from a busy calendar of engagements private events, we got the privilege of taking part in the prestigious concert series "La Torre del Flamenco" with the collaboration of singer Jesus Chozas and percussionist Robbie K Jones. The resulting quartet was the same lineup that had featured in the presentation of Duo Sonanta in Sala Clamores, Madrid. It was great to be selected for this series organized by the Madrid's town hall and to share billing with the likes of Montse Cortes and Guadiana. We've put together a few shots from that great night as well as from other recent, memorable moments.
In all, we've done about 30 performances in 2016 and some dates are already on the books for next year.
THE SONANTA SPRING
Early 2016 started with some great bookings for us and the arrival of Spring made us even happier. Duo Sonanta kicked off the 2016 season with recitals in the Hotel Ritz Madrid, the Complutense University School of Medicine, El Greco Cultural Center, some of which included the inimitable voice of maestro Jesus Chozas.
We've put together a selection of images from these events, thanks to the impeccable work of Sanchez Marmol.
TEATRO LA MAESTRANZA
SEVILLE - JANUARY 2016
The year couldn't have started better than with the confirmation of various corporate and private events commencing with the onset of spring.
As for public events, we were honored to play as part of "Flamenco de Cámara", a chamber ensemble which accompanied maestro Jose Gallardo del Rey to interpret the new take on "El Amor Brujo" (Love, The Magician) by Manuel de Falla, complete with flamenco interludes.
The production also boasted the participation of the Royal Symphonic Orchestra of Seville under the direction of John Axelrod, flamenco dancers choreographed by Ruben Olmo (recent National Award for Dance) as well as soloists Jose Maria Gallardo and Esperanza Fernandez.
The two-day affair before full houses of 1800 spectators was a great success all around.

After an intense summer of events, Duo Sonanta has all hands on deck for what promises to be a great 2016 season. As well as our usual guitar events we have a multi-instrumental surprise in a one of the great theatres of Spain, but for now you'll have to wait for the details.
FLAMENCO AND GUITAR FOR EVERYONE
We carried out private concerts all round the Greater Madrid. One highlight was the Ambassadors and Diplomatic Corp Dinner in the spectacular Hotel Eurostar Tower in Madrid.
Overall we played a half dozen recitals and Duo Sonanta has no plans to rest in the second half of 2016.

LET THE MUSIC PLAY!
Our 2014 finished on a happy note with various performances that included the great singer Jesus Chozas. The first was in Almirante Churruca Cultural Center in the Aluche district of Madrid. The second in the La Fortuna district of Leganes in the Bar-Restaurant Los Angeles - one of the authentic epicenters of the world of flamenco in the south of Madrid.
Besides the vocal addition in Leganes, we were also able to offer some of our new repertoire that Duo Sonanta will continue to develop in the second half of the year.
Wrapping up 2014 and kicking off 2015 we put on three flamenco shows with Jesus Chozas. Two were in the municipal libraries, Luis Martin Santos and Antonio Mingote in Vallecas and Aluche (Madrid) respectively. The third was January 9 in the venue known for cultural activities, "De Modestia Na..."
We've chalked up some fantastic experiences halfway through the year to which we can also add the grand adventure in Oman with the great Gallardo del Rey.
We're still expanding Duo Sonanta's repertoire we'd like to send a special greeting to everyone one who has been following us. We'll keep you up to date on Facebook, Twitter (@guitarraeventos) and our brand new channel on YouTube.
GRAND ADVENTURE TO OMAN FOR DUO SONANTA
Unforgettable is the word to define spring 2014 for Duo Sonanta. Mid May, Alberto Espejo and Pablo San Nicasio enrolled signed on to a grandiose project: Lights Of Andalusia incorporated over 150 of diverse nationalities and Arabic texts into a musical spectacular to celebrate the convergence of culture between flamenco, Andalusian and Arabic music.
Duo Sonanta joined group led by Spanish composer and guitarist José María Gallardo del Rey and worked together under the direction of Lebanese composer and soprano Hiba Al Kawas all the while sharing the experience with flamenco vocalists Pedro Obregon, Matias de Paula, flutist Ezequiel Cortabarria and percussionist Karo Sampela.
Add to the magnificent experience the flamenco Carmen Cantero flamenco dance troupe, the Transylvanian Philharmonic Choir directed by John Axelrod and the grand voice of Abdulrahman Mohammed.
Two weeks of intense rehearsal led to a hugely successful pay off on the stage of the Royal Opera House of Muscat.
Shortly after returning from Oman, we had another big concert with the help of Jesus Chozas and guitarist Oscar Lopez Rogado in the Cultural Center Miguel de Cervantes in San Blas, Madrid.
Have a look at the photos we got out of all of these adventures.
DUO SONANTA - YEAR ONE
Not bad for our first year: pablo San Nicasio and Alberto Espejo have held no punches. We've hit major venues in Spain, like Clamores, Galileo or even the Ateneo de Madrid as well as cultural centers Almirante Churruca and Lazaro Carreter and even municipal libraries Puerta de Toledo and Villaverde. All have been witness to our offering of flamenco guitar and singing.
We are currently developing our flamenco repertoire to be able to step up to any type of event that comes our over the coming year.
Long live Duo Sonanta!
